The Concrete

Concrete Jungle was founded by Yorkshire based artist Lee Kundi, always having a fondness for the beauty and simplicity of concrete I began experimenting with surplus cement and aggregates from my father’s building business. Initially creating some very unique looking lamps with concrete bases and copper piping, these early attempts were fairly crude and let’s just say they were an acquired taste! Thoroughly enjoying the creative process and realising the possibilities along with the potential to use building materials which would otherwise end up in landfill, I persevered and continued to experiment.

By adding different aggregates and colour pigments to try soften the look I found I could achieve a much more contemporary look but still retain the raw beauty and tactile nature of the concrete. The current range of Plant Pots have colour running throughout the concrete in differing and ever increasing concentrations giving a shaded and marbled effect, each pot is individually cast and finished by hand in Saltaire. Initially selling the Pots as stand alone pieces we’ve now married them up with some of the most beautiful and unique plants around, which make for an irresistible contrasting combination. Each pot is sealed on the inside to ensure no lime leeches out of the concrete when watering, this keeps the PH of the water neutral so there’ll be no adverse effects to your plants. All our outdoor planters are sealed all round and come with drainage holes.

The Jungle

A life long love of plants began from an early age, I was always surrounded by a house full of beautiful plants. Living on the top floor flat there was never the opportunity of a garden outside, but that didn’t stop my mum creating one inside. I remember Yukas, umbrella plants, cheese plants (these were the names i knew until later in life when i discovered their Latin names), most of which would tower high above me. On a weekend i’d spend it at my father’s who had a house full of succulents, my dad originally from India struggled to acclimatise to the UK weather and therefore the heating was always set to ‘tropical’ which was to the delight of his plants. It was always an amazing sight to see some of these prickly defensive plants thriving and often treating us to beautiful blooms. This upbringing really gave me the love and passion I have today for plants albeit with some unorthodox methods, my mum would sing to her plants and play them her favorite music! my dad would leave his water to stand, breath and get to room temperature for days on end before giving it to his plants, not usual practices but it certainly taught me to look after my plants, give them a little love and care and they in turn will look after you.

We’ve been lucky to find some great suppliers of plants and we only source the absolute best quality. With each plant we supply care instructions to give the plant the best opportunity to thrive in your home.

We have now taken on several bespoke projects, creating to the size and colour of our client’s particular needs, from a range of small pots to hold succulents for a restaurant chain, to large external planters housing olive trees for a private client.

The possibilities are endless and we would relish the opportunity to work with any clients to create the perfect piece to suit either your interior or exterior décor.
